Notes from our Afternoon Program PDF Print E-mail

We have been having lots of fun so far this year in the afternoon program. It’s very interesting to see the children interact with friends of different ages. Also I have the opportunity to watch them grow and change from toddlers to five year olds, becoming leaders.

We began returning to the canyon in November for hiking, exploring, running and much more. Navigating the hill and other uneven terrain gives the children a sense of mastery. Hiding to play hide and seek is exciting and creates anticipation and a sense of camaraderie. The large open space beckons the children to run which they seem to be able to do endlessly.

This year most of the children have really taken to playing with the ropes. Emma uses hers to fish from the top of the structure. The older ones try to climb the sides of the structure using the ropes to pull themselves up. Think of all of the physics and math learning going on!
